The Curious Savage
by John Patrick

Mrs. Savage has been left ten million dollars by her husband and wants to make the best use of it, in spite of the efforts of her grown-up stepchildren to get their hands on it. These latter, knowing that the widow's wealth is now in negotiable securities, and seeing they cannot get hold of it, commit her to a "sanatorium" hoping to "bring her to her senses." But Mrs. Savage is determined to establish a fund to help others realize their hopes and dreams. Come see Maranatha’s production of this great comedy on the stage of the Ambassador Auditorium for four performances only.

Evening of Christmas: Light of Heaven

Christmas is filled with light.  But none is greater than the light that came down from heaven to earth in the form of the Christ-child.  Our Mixed Ensemble, Dance Company and Advanced Orchestra will be taking the journey together through music and dance to that place of eternal light.  All the way from the glory of “O Holy Night” to the magic of the dances from the “Nutcracker,” performed by our Dance Company and accompanied by our Advanced Orchestra, this is the event that will truly fill your season with light.

Big Fish
Book by John August
Music and Lyrics by Andrew Lippa

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film by Tim Burton, Big Fish is a rollicking fantasy set in the American South.  The story centers on the charismatic Edward Bloom, whose impossible stories and epic adventures have always frustrated his son, Will.  As Edward’s life is coming to an end and his son’s journey is about to begin, Will sets out to reveal the man behind the myth, separating truth from tall tale.  This show has everything – witches, dancing elephants, mermaids, gentle giants, and one knockout dance number after another and the eventual triumph of family love over the struggles of life.

  March 12-13, 2015 • 7:00 p.m.
  March 14, 2015 • 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Spring Performing Arts Showcase: Back to the Future

As we approach the 50th anniversary of Maranatha High School, performing arts would like to take a look back at musical and artistic cultures that have been the backdrop for the growth of the school.  The Mixed Ensemble, Dance Company and Advanced Orchestra will explore the music and dance of each era that the school has passed through, starting with the 60’s and moving on through the styles and genres of today.  You might see the Dance Company “Staying Alive,” or hear Mixed Ensemble or Advanced Orchestra celebrate the music of “Star Wars” or the Beatles!  Woven through this backdrop will be the timeless truths that have been the backbone of this institution portrayed, sung, and played.

  April 24, 2015 • 7:00 p.m.

Open Stage Night

There are so many talented people here at Maranatha, inside and outside of the performing arts program, and we wanted to provide a night for everyone to shine.  Welcome the first annual, all Maranatha talent night!  Not only will those of us who are in the performing arts community get a chance to do that song that isn’t in any of musicals we’ve ever done, or deliver that scene from our favorite movie, but those who are the poets, songwriters, singers and dancers in the larger community of Maranatha will get their chance to “show us what they’ve got.” Details on how to become part of the show will be announced in the Spring.
