Unique Contributions to Sing About

Unique Contributions to Sing About!

We appreciate all of our donors, including those that give $5 to those that give $100,000. Here are some unique ways our community has come together to support MHS over the past few years!

  • MHS Amphitheater – MHS grandparents partnered generously with the school to raise needed funds to replace our dilapidated amphitheater seats, beautify the fire pit, and install a cross in this area. MHS student chaplain Lindsey Gauntlett (’07) joined the effort and led a team of students who not only encouraged grandparents to help close the funding gap, but also physically worked in the amphitheater as part of the renovation team. Thank you, Grandparents, Lindsey and team!

  • Cross Project – MHS student Michael Scolinos (’10) approached the school and offered to construct and install a cross in the newly renovated amphitheater as his Eagle Scout project. After four months of gathering volunteers, planning the design and foundation, and building the cross, Michael and his team were able to install a beautiful large redwood cross! Thank you, Michael and team!

  • Swimathon – For the first time in Maranatha’s history, a Swimathon was held in our very own natatorium on February 25, 2007. Over 30 swimmers participated, raising over $12,000 for needed capital improvements in the natatorium, including a pool heater. These swimmers, who included a 10-year old future “Maranathan”, a current freshman mother, a Maranatha alumna, MHS faculty and staff, a student club, and other students, swam a collective 3,374 laps/lengths for a total of over 51 miles! Thanks to these swimmers, their lap sponsors, donations from MHS supporters, and lead gifts from three MHS freshmen families, the school has purchased and installed a pool heater and the water is now WARM!

  • Juan Cuxil Memorial Flagpole – Friends and Family of Maranatha’s beloved faculty member, Juan Cuxil, who passed away on August 14, 2006, set out to raise funds for the installation of a flagpole on our campus, something that Juan had always wanted. Juan particularly encouraged “See You at the Pole”, a national event rallying students to gather around the flagpole at their local school to pray for their school, friends, teachers, government, and nation. Thanks to the many donors (including several alumni) who gave in remembrance of Juan, Maranatha was able to install a flagpole, in Juan’s memory, for this purpose. Juan’s widow, Georgia, attended the school-wide dedication service on April 2, 2007.

  • Kitchen Renovation - Patty and Jim Kanda, parents of Cameron (’09), spearheaded a "Freshmen Parent Challenge" in the spring of 2006. They gave generously, and by their example, challenged other freshmen families to donate to the Capital Campaign to support the renovation of the school’s kitchen! In four months they were able to help raise over $100,000 in cash gifts and/or multi-year pledges toward the kitchen renovation. Thank you, Class of 2009 families!

  • Bring on the Heat - The Parents of the Class of 2010 have joined together to continue the legacy of giving among Maranatha’s parents by partnering with the school to bring heat to the Physical Education building. This class of parents has raised the needed funds to install a commercial boiler on the roof of the PE building. Thank you, Parents of the Class of 2010.

  • Friday Night Lights – Thanks to the generosity of eight special donors, along with the school’s Athletic Booster Club, Maranatha High School can now enjoy “Friday Night Lights” on its very own athletic field. Go, Minutemen!
