The Performing Arts Program is an exciting part of Maranatha High School which continues to grow and improve. In the past few years we have had the opportunity to hire new dance, music and theater teachers. Each one of these new faculty are passionate about bringing the arts to the MHS Community. Students will have the opportunities to be involved with music, theater and dance at any level they choose. We offer classes and also many extracurricular activities for any student that wants to get involved. Aaron Kolberg, Choral Faculty
Aaron Kolberg has been making music for as long as he can remember. He began taking voice lessons at the age of eight, and continued privately through college. He sang in church choir from a very young age, a love that continued into high school. He received his B.A. in Music with an emphasis in Arranging from Azusa Pacific University in 2002. His college credits include acting and singing in many musicals, as well as singing in the University Choir and Orchestra, touring with small musical groups, and composing and directing the music for several of the annual Drama Awards ceremonies. He currently contracts his services with MarMac Repertory Theater Company, having been the music director for several shows including You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and Give My Regards to Broadway 2006. Aaron is also a freelance composer, writing music for short films, websites and weddings.
Jeff Martinez, Theater Director
Jeff Martinez has been involved with a variety of entertainment mediums for over 15 years. His experience ranges from theatrical productions as an actor and director, to creating, producing and acting in television and film productions, as well as touring as a vocal performer in choirs and small groups. Jeff received his B.A. in Communication with an emphasis in Media Studies and Minor in Theater from Azusa Pacific University. Since receiving his degree in 2001, Jeff has assistant directed over six different productions at APU and continues to perform in musical theater and perform vocally with his church worship team. In 2004 Jeff and his wife Clara, started a theater company called Marmac Repertory Theater Company. Marmac Repertory Theater Company is a non-profit professional theater company committed to entertaining, educating and enriching the community through Broadway quality theatrical productions and an annual youth performing arts academy.
Sarah Shoemaker, Dance Faculty
Sarah Shoemaker began taking private dance lessons at the age of seven in her hometown of Napa, CA. By age ten, she was singing and dancing in college musical productions. As early as high school, Sarah was winning awards for her choreography, including a talent scholarship from the Napa Valley Jr. Miss Pageant. Sarah received her B.A. in Theatre Arts from Azusa Pacific University, specializing in musical theatre. While attending APU, she choreographed numerous musical pieces for the Theatre Department, including a touring production of Godspell in 2005. Recently, Sarah has performed professionally with Marmac Repertory Theater Company, as well as choreographing MHS’ production of Oklahoma in spring 2006.
Erik Snodgrass, Theater Faculty
Over the past 12 years Erik Snodgrass has taken the stage as an actor/singer/dancer numerous times. Erik earned his first B.A. in 2003 from Ouachita Baptist University with a major in Biblical Studies and a minor in Psychology. While at Ouachita, Erik served as co-leader of a touring worship band and served on staff at his church as a worship pastor and ordained minister. During this time, Erik also traveled internationally as a member of performing arts-based missions teams. Upon graduating from Ouachita, Erik moved back to his hometown of Arlington, Texas and married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer, in 2004. After a stint as a junior high/high school drama teacher and a professional singer/dancer at Six Flags over Texas, Erik and Jennifer moved to California. In 2007, Erik graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a B.A. in Theater Arts and shortly thereafter welcomed his daughter Sadie to the world. Erik continues to perform professionally, and he is currently seeking his Masters degree in Theater Studies from Regent University.
