Adventure Club
The Adventure Club's purpose is to challenge students to experience God's creation in new and exciting ways. The Adventure Club's goal is to plan and host at least three adventures per year. One trip is typically a camping trip to a local Channel Island which includes kayaking, snorkeling, and whale/dolphin sighting. The second trip is a camping trip to Joshua Tree where kids will learn to rock climb and hike on desert terrain. The third trip is a "mystery trip" – planned by the Adventure Club leadership. The Adventure Club often does other smaller adventures throughout the year such as the Camp Pendleton Mud Run or Paint Ball days. These adventures get students out of their comfort zones and open their eyes to new activities.

Club Advisor Joe Zambrano says, "My hope and prayer for this club is that all students would realize just how limitless God is, while learning that going to a party on Friday night can be replaced with weekend rock climbing, swimming with seals, or simply going hiking." Island trips can be a little more expensive, but scholarships may be made available as we fundraise throughout the year.

For more information, please contact Club Advisor Joe Zambrano at j_zambrano@mhs-hs.org.

Ambassador Club
The Ambassador Club is a leadership and service club at MHS. The students represent Maranatha High School at many different events such as our Prospective Parent Days, 8th Grade Visitation Days, 8th Grade Shadow Days, school visitation with Admissions, and many other events on campus. By serving at these many events, students receive public exposure and develop valuable leadership skills.

Besides service, the Ambassador Club has an annual Ambassador's Club Ball. Club students regularly receive dance instruction in ballroom and swing type dancing. These activities bond the students with the hope that they will learn a valuable skill. The Club members learn poise and decorum as they prepare for and attend the Ball.

For more information, please contact Club Advisor John Rouse at j_rouse@mhs-hs.org.

American Red Cross Club
The Red Cross Club is a school-based service group that helps the Red Cross fulfill its humanitarian mission. Working closely with the local Red Cross unit, club members participate in Red Cross service projects that impact their community and the world as well as promote emergency and disaster preparedness. The Club provides medical knowledge and promotes leadership for students, especially those interested in careers in medicine, sports medicine and nursing. Club members have the opportunity to learn First Aid and CPR from a certified trainer on campus.

This Club has a goal of planning two blood drives per year and participating in several local community events. In the '05-'06 year they were able to provide a First Aid Station Team at the City of Hope - Walk for Hope as well as at the Pasadena Rose Parade.

For more information contact Club Advisor Tony Pena at t_pena@mhs-hs.org.

ASL Club
The American Sign Language (ASL) Club is for students who share the love of signing. The club welcomes any signer (whether or not they are currently enrolled in a sign language class) as well as anyone that enjoys the beauty of the language and/or may want to learn in the future. Currently, the ASL Club has approximately 40 people involved. Four students lead the club and help the club advisor plan meetings and activities.

Besides enjoying monthly meetings, the ASL Club may occasionally enjoy an activity apart from school hours. Some of the past activities during and after school have been potluck lunches, the making of Valentine's Day cards for deaf students, "Silent Lunches" at a food court, decorating cupcakes to resemble turkeys for Thanksgiving, and silent game days. The club is a great place to have fun while learning more about the culture of the deaf community and getting to know American Sign Language.

For more information contact Club Advisor Pam Ashe at p_ashe@mhs-hs.org.

Art Club
As a reflection of the Creator, we each have a measure of creativity within us. The Art Club at Maranatha High School exists both to encourage artistic growth as well as artistic interest and knowledge and explore that God-given gift of creativity. Both students who are practicing artists as well as those who just have a love for art are welcome to join the fun.

Students are given an "Artist License" after they join and participate in numerous events during the year, including the caramel apple sale, Annual Christmas Gingerbread Building Contest, celebration of artists' birthdays, sketching outings – and more. There is also one educational art field trip each year, either to a museum, art school or art exhibit.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Diane Barnhart at d_barnhart@mhs-hs.org.

California Scholarship Federation
The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is a statewide organization whose purpose is to recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Students qualify on a semester basis following a mandated point system. Applications for CSF are available following each semester's report card and must be filled out completely with a parent signature and a copy of the most recent report card attached. Late applications are not accepted; however, the student may apply the following semester.

At MHS we have honored high achieving students in CSF with a field trip each semester, free donut days to receive membership cards, and special lunches or privileges. In addition, awards are given to seniors who have participated for 4 semesters of CSF during their last 5-6 semesters of high school. One of these semesters must be earned with senior grades. At the beginning of the school year, officers are elected to help create and carry out plans for the club.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Lindsey Price at l_price@mhs-hs.org.

Chess Club
The Chess Club meets weekly at Maranatha where members practice their skills in an informal and fun chess tournament with each other. Besides playing for fun, some meetings involve practices and tutorials. Some members move on to register with the USCF (United States Chess Federation) and become ranked players. Some players and teams also enter sanctioned tournaments. Future goals of the Chess Club are to arrange schoolwide tournaments and organize a team service project.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Kay Rouse at k_rouse@mhs-hs.org.

Code Red
The goal of Code Red is to stir a greater sense of spirit and community for our school through attendance and support at the various sporting events. Members wear red to games, sit together, and create and inspire chants and cheers. They also hope to go to a professional sporting event to bond and practice their cheering.

For more information, please contact Club Advisor Heather Sanford at h_sanford@mhs-hs.org.

Diverse Student Union
The Diverse Student Union (DSU) exists to promote diversity and awareness at Maranatha. The DSU acknowledges that God has created all of us with a multitude of differences and those differences should be acknowledged and valued. The club promotes awareness of all kinds of diversity such as culture, ethnicity, race, gender, and faith backgrounds and promotes not only understanding of differences but sensitivity toward others.

The DSU promotes awareness in chapels, through lunch activities, in student announcements and through the DSU sponsored Diversity Month at Maranatha. Diversity Month includes such things as diverse dance presentations, a fashion show displaying dress from different cultures, and many types of ethnic food available to experience at lunch. Future plans for the club include participating in community service in diverse settings.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Nanyamka Redmond at n_redmond@mhs-hs.org.

Earth Club
Earth Club is about discovering and applying the principles of Christian stewardship regarding the environment. We hope to educate ourselves and others about current environmental issues and inspire each other to take appropriate action on these issues. Activities will be planned around club members’ interests and availability.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
This club is a local version of the national Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization. Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA is the largest Christian sports organization in America. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ. This club at Maranatha is intended to unify all athletes on campus and give them a place to grow. Members will have a chance to mentor and/or support other athletes. Club activities and service projects will be discussed at meetings.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Kevin Lindsey at k_lindsey@mhs-hs.org..

Film/Cinema Club
This club gives students the opportunity to make short films, study all types of cinema, and make videos for chapel. They will have actors, directors and other Hollywood professionals come in to talk about working in the industry and also teach about the craft of film making. Any interested students are welcome to attend.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Vince Leporini at v_leporini@mhs-hs.org.

French Club
'Le Cercle Francais' (the French Circle) exposes students to French history, culture, philosophy and literature. Students experience French cuisine such as des patisseries, des baguettes, des croque-monsieur, des croissants et du fromage francais on club meeting days each month. They are also involved with Alliance Francaise here in Pasadena. Finally, during some years the French Club plans a trip to France!

Habitat for Humanity
The Habitat for Humanity Club has been a part of the Maranatha community for several years. Through it many students have been able to serve the community and exercise their faith.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. Habitat has built more than 200,000 houses around the world. The club's goal is to provide volunteer aid to at least three Habitat for Humanity community projects. They also strive to conduct two major fundraisers to raise awareness and funds with the Maranatha community for Habitat and its mission. The proceeds will go towards the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity Organization.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Nanyamka Redmond at n_redmond@mhs-hs.org.

Key Club
The Key Club is a service organization that serves and helps the local and greater community. As part of the Kiwanis they help with the pancake breakfast, work on community service projects such as painting a local homeless shelter, as well as participate in projects outside the local area such as sponsoring orphan children in Peru. They meet regularly and fundraise throughout the year to accomplish their projects. These students are an excellent example of Christian service.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Joe Zambrano at j_zambrano@mhs-hs.org.

Knitting Club
The Knitting Club gathers twice a month to knit scarves, hats, blankets and quilts together. All students are welcome, regardless of previous knitting experience as student leaders and the Club Advisor are on hand to train all those interested. Besides creating community while learning an enjoyable skill, the Knitting Club has a greater purpose. Most of the knitting the club completes is donated to the homeless to help keep them warm. The club also has future plans to hold an end-of-the-year auction of their hand-crafted items and to donate the proceeds to charity.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Brenda Schlenker at b_schlenker@mhs-hs.org.

Math Club
The Math Club is filled with exciting activities to enrich the math experience of Maranatha students. The Math Club meets regularly to do activities such as: skits on historical figures in math, hands-on constructions of the Koch Snowflake and Anti-Snowflake Curves, student talks on the Fourth Dimension, field trips to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and Sudoku. Math Club members seek to have fun as in their annual Pi-Day Celebration held on 3/14 and to challenge themselves as they do with their annual Math Contests.

For more information, contact Club Advisor Sandy Pelletier at s_pelletier@mhs-hs.org.

National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) was founded in 1921 to recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. NHS has become a prestigious organization with a reputation for excellence within educational communities.

The Maranatha High School chapter of NHS was chartered in 1993. Since that time, NHS membership has been offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Members are chosen by a faculty council for their character, leadership and service attributes. Every year, over 10% of the Maranatha student body belongs to the NHS.

NHS is a service organization and the group service project is peer-tutoring. On a semester basis, each NHS member is encouraged to give 10 hours of free tutoring. That's over 500 hours of tutoring given to MHS students by MHS students every semester!

NHS Advisor to be determined.

Spanish Club
The Spanish Club seeks to provide cultural enrichment and activities for students who enjoy Spanish. The Spanish Club organizes events such as: flamenco dance show trips, a weekend vacation to Mexico, and catered lunch on campus from a local Latino restaurant. The club fundraises with their famous bi-weekly muffin sales and they enjoy sharing the profits with our school as well as several missions organizations.
